dc has brought together the most circular furniture, fixtures and equipment manufacturers in UK and Europe to help interior designers, architects and specifiers reduce the carbon impact of interiors.
To enable this, we’ve created both a product and interior fitout reporting methodology that allows for standardised reporting across all manufacturers and product types. We call it ‘Carbon Efficiency’, and it enables the circular reporting of products.
CARBON REDUCTION PLANNING
The road to Net Zero is long and bumpy in the construction industry, and to get there, property developers and operators need to create a carbon reduction plan for occupiers. This typically begins with the selection of construction materials and use of energy and water recovery systems. However, the ongoing impact of furniture, fixture and equipment is becoming increasing important in planning reduction, as over the lifetime of a building it can be greater than the materials use to make it. (UKGBC).
Both UK and EU legislators are driving reuse and remanufacturing as a ways to reduce the carbon impact of fitouts. Organisations like BREEAM, WELL, FISP and SKA Rating are also now requiring evidence of reuse and reusability to meet green building requirements.
REUSE
The first step gives products a 2nd life, but it is dependent on manufacturers designing for reuse and offering take back and repair schemes either directly or through service partners.
REFURBISHMENT
The second step in reducing carbon requires FF&E products to be designed to be maintained and repaired in order to extend their 1st life.

The Furniture Passport provides an easy-to-access central storage point for all of your product data, certification and information.
The Ecolabel simplifies the results of the CPD, and links directly to manufacturer websites and our full product directory.
The CPD provides whole life carbon reporting to ISO 14067 and ISO59040, for 1st and 2nd product life.
The FF&E report collates all the 1st life product carbon footprint data. It also highlights potential carbon savings from the reuse of products.

Manufacturers are actively applying circular design principles such as design for repair and reuse, and using recyclable materials. They’re also accepting product returns or managing take back schemes directly or through partners.
Specifiers are offering interior fit out reporting to measure carbon impact, and recommend potential savings.
For these companies, circularity is part of they’re long-term strategy.
Leaders are companies helping others to become circular.
These are circular manufacturers actively applying circular design principles and accepting take backs. Not just for their own products, but other manufacturers products as well.
Specifiers are proactively offering reporting, and using it to manage and minimise the carbon impact of existing and future fit outs.
These companies are helping to change the industry to become more circular.
